Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.). I’m originally from Montgomery, New Jersey and grew up next door to my cousin Dana, who is also a CrossFit Stealth member and is now my neighbor here in New Brunswick! I live downtown with my husband, Drew and our two cats. I graduated from The College of New Jersey for undergrad and graduate school.  I am a first grade teacher at a private school in Short Hills, NJ. I love it and can’t imagine being anything else but a teacher.

What was your fitness routine before CrossFit? Well, one thing you should know about me is that I have no eye-hand coordination, so I was never part of a sports team past middle school.  After college, I used to run on my own a few times a week when I had the energy.  I also really enjoyed doing power yoga.

Why did you start doing CrossFit? My brother caught the CrossFit bug after getting a job at Reebok and working out at their box.  I had been having sleep and health issues, so he urged me to try Paleo and CrossFit to see if they helped at all.

What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout? After I peeled myself off the floor of my apartment?! “I’m not going to be able to move tomorrow… I can’t wait to go back!”

What were your goals when joining CrossFit Stealth? I really wanted to get in shape, exercise more regularly and prove to myself I could do some of these exercises that seemed so daunting.

Have you achieved any of those goals? Yes! For the first time, I look forward to going to work out and I try to go as frequently as possible. I am in the best shape of my adult life and doing things I never thought I’d be able to do.

Has CrossFit affected your life outside the box? How so? Absolutely! First of all, 90% of my conversation (no matter who I am talking to) is now usually centered around CrossFit, haha! The confidence and determination we gain during the WODs have definitely filtered into my daily life.  Also, as I mentioned earlier, I had been having problems with getting sick a lot and having problems sleeping. Since I started CrossFitting and doing Paleo, I have more energy, I don’t really get sick anymore and I’ve been sleeping like a baby!  Finally, my perspective on health and my body has shifted from “I need to be skinny” to “I need to PR my lifts!”

How would you describe your experience at CrossFit Stealth? It has been such an amazing experience – from the physical aspect to the social. It’s such an encouraging, fun atmosphere with great people all supporting you and suffering alongside of you.  The coaches are great teachers and encourage you to give everything your best.

How has CrossFit differed from any other training you’ve done in the past? My progress and body have never drastically changed so much and so quickly. I have never pushed myself to the limits, or challenged myself like I do at CrossFit. I am constantly surprising myself with what I am capable of. The community aspect of CrossFit is also different than most training – you have people holding you accountable.  I know because of that, I try to set higher standards for myself.

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit Stealth? Don’t give up! And… you will become addicted, so just prepare for that.

Something you might not know about me is? I’m a big foodie and love live music, so my hobbies mostly include eating and going to concerts. Also, I am adopted, so yes, my cousin Dana is actually my cousin, and no, she is not Asian, even a little (a common assumption), haha!
